Auditions
Auditions for the Chapel choir take place annually, usually during the first week of the Autumn Term, and are open to students in all years – see Choral Scholarships for full terms of eligibility.
Auditions for the choir for the 2025/26 academic year are now closed. The date of auditions for the 2026/27 academic year will be confirmed here over the summer.
Requirements
The choir attracts singers of a high musical standard.
Prospective scholars will ideally have some background in choral music at school or elsewhere, but this is not a requirement for auditioning. Familiarity with the Anglican choral tradition is desirable, but not essential.
Please see the role of a chorister for full details of what would be expected of you as a choral scholar.
Audition requirements are as follows:
- 2 contrasting pieces, prepared by the candidate
- Ear tests
- Psalm chanting – chanting Anglican and plainsong at sight
- Sight-singing tests
In addition to vocal quality, the expectations at audition are:
- exceptional sight singing skills
- general musicianship
- the ability to work to a high standard within a small group
