Role Overview:
The Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (DTSP) degree apprenticeship at Shield Reply focuses on evaluating, initiating, creating, and supporting defense sector solutions using digital technology. The role combines software engineering, cloud innovation, and AI to deliver scalable, resilient, and business-focused solutions. The Apprentice will use data to assess commercial and security risks, contributing to strategic recommendations that drive organisational improvements. In this role, you will contribute to developing software applications while also supporting the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of secure Oracle Cloud infrastructure, working alongside experienced cloud and DevOps professionals to deliver scalable, mission-critical solutions. The role spans the full technology stack and includes comprehensive training in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), enabling you to build both software engineering and cloud consulting skills. Your workplace will be Bristol-based with occasional client-facing traveling as needed. This Digital and Technology Solutions Professional - Digital Technology Solutions BSc degree apprenticeship will be delivered in partnership with the University of 黑料社 (36 months' programme).
Responsibilities:
- Support the development, testing, and improvement of software applications, including fixing issues with guidance from the team
- Write clear and well-structured code while learning best practices
- Assist with setting up and managing cloud environments (e.g. Oracle Cloud), including storage services
- Learn to use tools and scripts to help automate systems and deployments
- Work closely with experienced developers and engineers to understand requirements and build solutions
- Take part in testing, code reviews, and quality checks to ensure work is reliable
- Help monitor applications and systems, and support in resolving any issues
- Contribute to deployment processes and learn how applications are released and updated
- Support basic database tasks such as creating and updating tables
- Follow security and data protection best practices with guidance
- Assist with documentation to keep systems and processes clear and organised
- Continuously learn and develop skills in software development and cloud technologies
About the Candidate:
- You have already completed/are completing your A-Levels and are expecting/have received at least an overall BBB grade or higher. One of your A-Levels is Computing (mandatory)
- Interest in building technology solutions for the defense sector
- You are willing to learn and expand your knowledge of multiple programming languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript or Python
- Some understanding of relational database design and some experience with SQL would be an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment, following instructions and contributing to group projects
- Must be eligible for UK Security Check clearance

How to apply for a degree apprenticeship
The process to apply for a degree apprenticeship varies slightly depending on whether you are currently employed or an aspiring employee. Details of the process for both are outlined below.

Step 2a: Current employees - next steps
Check you meet eligibility rules and entry criteria

Get approval to apply
- Once you’ve decided which apprenticeship you’d like to study and when you’d like to start, speak to your line manager and/or HR team about applying
- You need to achieve sign-off at relevant levels of approval before you complete the application form for the apprenticeship
Step 2b: Aspiring employees - next steps
Apply to relevant opportunities
- Once you’ve decided which apprenticeship you’d like to study, keep a look out for opportunities
- Register your interest for apprenticeships offered with the University or
- Regularly visit employer websites to search through the vacancies they’re offering
Take part in the selection process
- Different employers have varying selection processes. You may have to attend for an interview, or have additional stages to complete
- As part of the process, we’ll check with the employer if you meet the eligibility and entry criteria
Receive offer from employer
- If you receive an offer from the company, congratulations! You can now progress to the next stage of applying for your degree apprenticeship
Step 3: Apply to the University
Get in touch with our degree apprenticeship team via the relevant contact details for your chosen programme. You’ll be sent an application email outlining the next steps to apply.
Once your application has been reviewed, you will be notified of the outcome via email from the University’s central admissions team. If your application is successful, you will need to accept your offer via the instructions in the email.
Step 4: Enrol with the University and start your degree apprenticeship!
Once you have completed the above steps, you will be sent further information about how to register to be a student at the University, and you will have to sign some paperwork alongside your employer.
